Episode 011: Pilgrim Tales with Ronnie Keame

IMG_3641Hi Pilgrim, welcome back topodcast-transparent Beyond the Pale. So glad you are here for episode 011 with my friend Ronnie Keame. This is going to be the first of a series of episodes I look forward to having throughout the podcast where Tammy and I interview the men and women I met in Spain on the Camino de Santiago.

I don’t shy away from the fact that walking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain last year was a life changing game changer for me and I’ve become a bit of an evangelist when it comes to recommending it for others to do.

In fact, I had this conversation with Ronnie in Shanghai China and my flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai was delayed for nearly 2 hours as we waited on the tarmac. Those of you that travel regularly know, this ain’t fun. But the good news was I got to know a British buisnessman in the seat next to me. I won’t go into details but when we finally arrived in Shanghai the man was already making plans for he and his wife to walk the Camino.

Anyhow, I wanted to have a series of these episodes so I could chat with these fellow pilgrim friends of mine about their motivations and exeriences on the 1000 year old pilgrimage. And who knows, you just might want to join us in Spain one day yourself.

I thought most of my conversations with pilgrims would be over the phone but then learned Ronnie, who is from South Korea, was attending university in Shanghai. Shanghai ain’t so far from Hong Kong so off I went.

We recorded this episode in an empty classroom on her university campus…and it was really empty so sorry if there is a little reverb at times. Also, you can tell its Spring in Shanghai as you can hear the birds singing as well.

It was great talking with Ronnie and she confessed to me she was so looking forwar to this interview because she really wanted to talk about the Camino and her friends were tired of hearing about it. Which is something I could relate…

I also realized Ronnie is our first female guest here on Beyond the Pale.   So cheers there pilgrim.
