Yes a couple weeks back the man who became synonymous with the magical chocolate maker Willy Wonka, actor Gene Wilder sadly passed away at the age of 83. So in memoriam to Mr. Wilder on today’s episode of Beyond the Pale Tammy and I look at the “Gospel of Willy Wonka” and pull out some nuggets, some of the parallels linking Wonka’s Chocolate factory and the Christian life.

Years ago I even preached a Sunday morning sermon on this…yes, I’m that crazy.

A good friend brought a friend to church for the first time and later was aghast as she sat there But to be fair, God does indulge me a bit on this I think. A couple years ago I was in London for a night and decided to buy a ticket to the West End production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I called a mutual friend in London and when I told her I was going to see the show you told me two people from the church home group she is part of were members of the cast. Next thing I knew I was getting and after show tour of the set and drinks with Mrs. Teevee and an Ooompa –Loompa. So yes God, goes indulge me a bit!
